Nestled along an expansive coastline adorned with some of the most breathtaking beaches in all of Europe, the Algarve beckons with its picturesque charm and a hinterland that unveils a tapestry of history through its castles and ancestral villages.

Picture yourself pedaling along the Algarve’s expansive coastline, where cycling paths hug the shoreline, providing not only a cardiovascular workout but also breathtaking views of the Atlantic. The rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the cliffs accompanies your journey, making each cycling excursion a sensory delight. Hidden coves, sandy shores, and rugged coastal terrain offer diverse routes for cyclists of all levels, from leisurely riders to seasoned enthusiasts seeking a challenge.

With natural parks, mountains rising to altitudes of 1000 meters, and a captivating blend of coastal and inland landscapes, the Algarve emerges as the perfect playground for cyclists, especially during the winter months.
Embracing the Algarve’s cycling culture during the winter months offers a unique perspective on this vibrant region. The absence of summer crowds allows cyclists to explore at their own pace, taking in the serenity of the landscapes and relishing the freedom of the open roads.

Of course, no exploration of the Algarve would be complete without savoring its culinary delights. Cyclists can refuel with the region’s fresh seafood, indulging in the catch of the day prepared with local expertise. The inland Algarve contributes to the post-ride feast with flavorsome dishes showcasing aromatic herbs and locally sourced ingredients, providing a well-deserved reward for the day’s cycling endeavors.

  • Cycle around the border near Alcoutim, which is considered one of the most beautiful roads in the country

Day 1
Faro to Tavira - 34km / +318m
Arrive at Faro Airport, and transfer to the hotel, located in the Tavira region. Check-in, briefing, and departure to your test ride. On your first day, you'll do an easy ride, just to get to know each other and slowly move your legs. A loop around Tavira, passing by its "salinas", and small typical villages from this region in the south of Portugal. Arrive at the hotel at the end of the day for dinner and overnight.
Day 2
Tavira - 109km / +1636m
Breakfast at the hotel. In Portugal, we say that the roads in the Algarve were built to "break our legs", and today you'll get some challenging uphills towards Cachopa, a village within the hill range of the Algarve inner land. The ups and downs are continuous and along the charming villages and natural beauty of the region. You'll pass by Sao Brás de Alportel, one of the most economically important cities of the Algarve, due to its production of cork, one of the Algarve's treasures. Surrounded by woods, mainly cork and carob trees, the views at the top of Fonte Férrea Park are amazing. The last downhill will lead you to the ocean, where you can grab a beer and some seafood to recover from this rather hard ride. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3
Tavira to Alcoutim - 45km / +705m
After breakfast at the hotel, you'll be ready to jump on the bikes. Today, you'll ride northeast, towards the Spanish border. Leaving Tavira, from some "car-free" roads, you'll reach the tranquil and bucolic town of Castra Marim. After passing its medieval Castle, you ride down to the Salt Marsh Nature Reserve, with about 2 hectares of the protected Guadiana estuary wetlands. From there, you climb up to Beliche Dam, one of the most important dams in the Algarve, which supplies about 800,000 inhabitants from the East Algarve. You'll reach the last town, Alcoutim, by what is considered one of the most beautiful roads in the country: a flat road, shaped by the turns of the Guadiana River, a natural border between Portugal and Spain. There, you'll have lunch and get some rest, on the way back, you'll take the private boat, all the way down to Vila Real de Sto António, a similar design to the reconstructed city of Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Tavira & Lagos
Free riding day today. Breakfast at the hotel, followed by a transfer to the Hotel in Lagos. Coming to the Algarve and not dipping your toes in the ocean is like "going to Rome and not seeing the pope" (a well-known Portuguese saying). Today, we propose a late morning activity such as surfing SUP at one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve. In the afternoon, we propose a walk to the charming and walled old town of Lago, followed by the steep wooden steps down to the sandy cove of Praia do Camilo. Nearby, you'll find the Ponta da Piedade cliffs that offer a beautiful view of the lighthouse. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5
Lagos to Silves - 80.9km / +1392m
Breakfast at the Hotel. From Lagos, you'll warm up your legs with a quick ride to Odiáxera (one of the most peculiar village names in Portugal), before hitting the well-known climb to Fóia, the highest hill of the Algarve, 902m above sea level. This is the place that all cyclists want to reach. The views are breathtaking and on days with a clear sky you can also reach the Lisbon surroundings with a look. After a snack break, you'll ride down to Silves, an inland town with an impressive solid red-brick castle where the Moors defended the entire region of the Algarve. During the Moorish Era (9th to 12th Century), Silves was also a major stronghold and a crucial trading center of the region. Lunch at a local and typical restaurant. Dinner and overnight.
Day 6
Lagos to Sagres - 88.8km / +1037m
Breakfast at the hotel. Leaving the Hotel by bike, today you ride west along Praia da Luzand Vila do Bispo to Sagres, the most westerly town in southern Portugal. The nature here is raw, formed by massive cliffs and small clear sandy beaches, pounded by big waves. Since you're about halfway to the end of your trip, you can take time for a coffee stop at Sagres Fortress, built in the 15th century, by King Infante D. Henrique. Going now northwards, along the coastline, you'll pass by the typical and quiet town of Aljezur, and end up our day at Praia da Amoreira, where you will have lunch at a local beach restaurant. The best fresh fish and seafood are waiting for you! Once you're ready, you'll get back to Lagos by van. Last group dinner in a typical local restaurant.
Day 7
Departure day
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the Faro Airport.
