A vision of the Basque Country from a bicycle seat. This relatively unknown area of Spain has some of the best scenery and the most marvellous cities in Spain, not to mention one of the finest cuisines in the world. Your circuit combines both inland and beautiful coastal scenery, along with the fine cities of Vitoria, Pamplona, San Sebastián, and Bilbao. Part of your route takes you along the Camino de Santiago (the Way of St James) as we cross the Pyrenees for a brief incursion into France, before returning to the coast.

Day 1
Arrival point to Transfer to Vitoria
Pick up from the arrival point and transfer to Vitoria, the capital of the Basque Country. Time to enjoy a stroll around the Old Quarter and the impressive cathedral. In the evening, you can visit the renowned tapas bars in the city center.
Day 2
Vitoria to Estella - 96km
Leaving Vitoria, you head eastwards towards Pamplona. You begin by circumnavigating the reservoir of Ullibarri-Gamboa. A beautiful ride takes you through the Parque Nacional de la Sierra de Urbasa y Andía, with a side trip to the beautiful source of the Urederra. Finally, you arrive at the town of Estella, situated on the Camino de Santiago, the famous old pilgrimage route known as the Way of St James.
Day 3
Estella to Pamplona - 48km
A shorter ride today into neighboring Navarra and its capital Pamplona, famous for the running of the bulls depicted in Hemingway's novel Fiesta. Here you will have plenty of time to explore the city and its atmospheric Old Quarter.
Day 4
Pamplona to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port - 70 or 87km
Leaving Pamplona, you continue along the Camino de Santiago toward France. You cross the lower Pyrenees, surrounded by the most beautiful scenery, and then descend towards the village of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port picturesque, peaceful village set in the lower hills of the Pyrenees, where the Camino de Santiago pilgrims often start.
Day 5
Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to San Sebastián - 79 or 101km
You spend today cycling on the northern side of the Pyrenees through France. You reach the French Basque coast at Saint-Jean-de-Luz. A short train ride from Hendaye takes you to San Sebastián (those who wish to ride there may do so). This beautiful city has a fine bay, beaches, an Old Quarter, and a fishing harbor. Last but not least is its incomparable gastronomy, second to none, where the multitude of tapas bars compete with some of the best restaurants in the world.
Day 6
San Sebastián to Lekeitio - 72km
After San Sebastián, you turn westwards to follow the coast towards Bilbao. This is some of the finest coastal scenery in Spain. At times, you ride along the water's edge; other times, you ride high above it with the most fantastic views of the coast, interspersed with charming villages. Tonight's stop is at the picturesque fishing village of Lekeitio.
Day 7
Lekeitio to Bilbao - 35 or 110km
Another ride along the impressive coastline. On the route, you will see fishing villages in dramatic settings such as Elantxobe, completely surrounded by high cliffs. You cycle around the estuary of Urdaibai to finally reach the town of Guernica, the subject of the painting by Picasso, which depicts the horrors of war. From Guernica, a short train ride takes you to Bilbao to explore this fascinating city and take the chance to visit the world-famous Guggenheim Museum before you return home the next day.
Day 8
Bilbao to Departure
End of the trip. Pick up from Bilbao hotel and transfer to the departure point.
