Cycle along the Tuscan Coastline

This Cycling Tour Tuscany Coast holiday allows you to explore all Tuscany highlights: from the art cities of Pisa and Lucca to small country villages and medieval fortresses. Through the elegant baths of Versilia to the wilder southern coast of Maremma. To the rivers, Arno and Serchio, passing by the lake of Massaciucoli, to the sea again. Furthermore, you see the typical Tuscan countryside rich in family farms and prestigious wineries to the endless pinewoods of the Etruscan coast. Also, you have a unique chance to experience all Tuscany tastes…

This tour crosses also to the large part of Tuscany, mostly on the coast, where the ancient people of the Etruscans lived. A peaceful and cultured people, the Etruscans lived in tune with nature and the landscape; lovers of eating and beauty. Most noteworthy is that they are famous because of their refined furnishings, their sarcophagus, and their always smiling faces. Let’s imagine to follow their footsteps. In addition, you can plan your time slowly and ride a high-class Trekking or E-bike, following the GPS tracks. That is especially relevant because the rural roads are known only by local people. Get a wonderful cycling holiday now!

As you navigate the rural roads that wind between the sea and rolling hills, you’ll be transported to a bygone era, where the essence of Tuscany’s natural beauty and cultural heritage envelops you. Day 1
Check in
Individual arrival to Lucca and settling into the hotel. Lucca can easily be reached by local trains or buses from Pisa and Florence, where Tuscany's main airports are.
Day 2
Countyside Lucca - 59/36km
Lucca and its countryside deserve a sightseeing tour along the local roads, unbeaten by tourists, among medieval hamlets, parish churches, small farms and old oil mills, where the famous extra virgin oil d.o.p. of Lucca is produced. A taste of pure countryside before going to the sea. The third day gives you also a chance to enjoy completely Lucca, its history and culinary specialties. And you can also have our direct support from our base in Lucca. We have selected an easy itinerary of about 36km and one a little more challenging of 59km to give you a chance to take really all the best of this area.
Day 3
Lucca - Viareggio - 39km
You will leave Lucca in the morning when the streets and typical shops look more lively and bright. Leaving the city center you will pass the old Carthusian monastery and Nozzano, an ancient hamlet maintaining its original aspect and fortifications, to reach Massaciuccoli Park, on Massaciucoli Lake, after a country uphill road. From the short hill, you will have an enchanting view of the park, the coast, and the sea on the horizon. From here to Viareggio, Marina di Pietrasanta, and Versilia beaches it’s a pleasant biking in a totally different landscape
Day 4
Viareggio - Tirrenia - 49km
The third stage of the Tuscany Coast tour starts at the “Versilia” promenade, one of the most famous in Tuscany. You will cross the small town of Viareggio, known as a resort for famous people, for its Carnival, and for the production of yachts and luxurious boats. Changing scenery again you will bike through the Natural Park of “Migliarino - San Rossore- Massaciuccoli”, typical for its sweet-smelling pinewoods and sand dunes. After crossing Pisa, you must stop in Piazza dei Miracoli for the photo under the Leaning Tower, you continue along the cycle path of Trammino (a track built on the route of an old railway), to reach Tirrenia where today's stage ends.
Day 5
Tirrenia - Quercianella - 46km
From Tirrenia, you can join the waterfront cycle path to admire the beautiful view of the coast and the city of Livorno. The scents of the Mediterranean scrub will delight your senses along the route. After a quick tour of the historic center - Bella Venezia district - pedal to the Livorno seafront. Arrived in Ardenza, you can choose either to ride along the seafront on a busy road, but with a breathtaking view of the Tuscan Archipelago and the cliffs full of hidden coves, or take the Via del Santuario di Montenero, a panoramic climb around 300 meters nestled in the green and followed by a road that goes downhill to Quercianella. It's up to you!
Day 6
Quercianella - Castagneto Carducci - 40km
You will start your tour southwards, always along the seaside: you will enjoy cycling on natural bike paths inside the centenarian pine woods, arriving up to several lovely sandy beaches. Since the climate in this part of Tuscany is very pleasant, in Spring and Autumn, you will have the chance to stop and relax on the sand, enjoying the typical quiet of the early/late season and going for a swim in the sea when the sun is still bright and high.
Day 7
Bolgheri Wine Roads - 35km
The fourth tour of the holiday is a break in the countryside. This is the day of people loving quality wines and the typical Tuscan countryside, with cypresses, vineyards, farmhouses, and mild hills in the background, just like in the postcards! Actually, the area we cross is not far from the sea and so not too hilly. This route is along the Wine Road of the Etruscan Coast; you will reach Bibbona, Bolgheri, and Castagneto Carducci, crossing the whole area where Super Tuscan wines such as Sassicaia and Ornellaia are produced. You will find a lot of wineries, where you can stop for a wine tasting, before coming back to our beautiful hotel to relax.
Day 8
